There's something truly magical about a child sitting down to write a letter to Santa Claus. Whether it's the first letter they've ever written or a beloved annual tradition, the act of putting hopes and wishes into words is one of the most special parts of Christmas.

Step 1: Start With a Warm Greeting
Every great letter begins with hello! Help your child address Santa directly:
- "Dear Santa,"

Simple and warm works perfectly. Santa loves receiving letters, so there's no need to be formal — just friendly!
Step 2: Tell Santa a Little About Yourself
Santa knows every child by name, but he loves hearing about what's been happening in their life. Encourage your child to share something they're proud of, a highlight from their year, or something fun they've been learning:
"I'm in Grade 2 this year and I've been learning to read chapter books. My favourite one so far is Charlotte's Web."
"I have a new baby sister named Lily and I've been helping Mum look after her."

Be specific where helpful. "A LEGO set" is great; "the LEGO City Police Station, set #60316" is even better. It makes the elves' job much easier!
Mix big wishes with small ones. Children who include a range of wishes — from something they really hope for to some smaller stocking-stuffer ideas — give Santa more options.
Here's an example:
"This year I would really love: a new bicycle (blue or green, please!), the Minecraft Legends game, some colouring pencils, and maybe a new book about dinosaurs."
Step 4: Ask Santa a Question or Say Something Kind
One of the sweetest parts of any Santa letter is when children think about Santa, not just their wishes. Encourage them to:
- Ask how Rudolph and the other reindeer are doing
- Mention a favourite Christmas tradition
- Ask what Santa's favourite cookie is (a great way to decide what to leave out on Christmas Eve!)
- Wish Mrs. Claus a happy Christmas
These little touches show Santa that the child is thoughtful and caring — and that always puts a smile on his face.
Step 5: End With a Lovely Sign-Off
Wrap up the letter with a warm closing and a signature:
- "With love and Christmas wishes,"
- "Yours at Christmas,"
- "From your friend,"
Then the child's name — and if they'd like, their age, city, and whether they have any pets. Santa loves knowing these details!

My name is [Name] and I am [age] years old. I live in [city]. This year I am in [grade] and I have been working hard on [something they're proud of].
I have tried my best to be kind this year. [Add something specific — helped a friend, looked after a sibling, etc.]
For Christmas, I am hoping for: 1. [Wish 1] 2. [Wish 2] 3. [Wish 3]
How are all the reindeer doing? I hope Rudolph's nose is nice and bright for the big night!
